Biography

William Chorley was first identified in the Absent Voter Records for Abbots Langley for Autumn 1918, Spring 1919, and Autumn 1919, where his address was given at Bunkers Lane, Abbots Langley. He was not included in any other Parish records. He was recorded serving as a Private with the 433rd Agricultural Company of the Labour Corps.

William was born in the winter of 1894 at Lydeard St Lawrence near Taunton, Somerset. He was one of three children born to Richard and Elizabeth Chorley. In both the 1901 and 1911 Census the family lived at Common Down, Halse, near to Lydeard St Lawrence. In 1901 Richard worked as a Carter on a Farm, and in 1911 he was employed as a Farm Labourer. In the 1911 Census William also worked as a Farm Labourer.

It is not known when William enlisted, or why he was recorded in the Absent Voter Record for Abbots Langley, other than his address was given at Bunkers Lane.

William Chorley survived the War.
