Pre War
Charles Howard Dixon was born in 1898 in Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, the son of John and Florence Dixon.
On the 1901 Census the family were living in Tettenhall, Staffordshire where his father was a Bank Manager. By 1911 he was boarding at Seaford College, Seaford, Sussex.
He lived in Cromer Hyde, Harmer Green, Welwyn, Hertfordshire before he went to University College, London and joined the Officer Training Corp as a Cadet.
Wartime Service
Following training he became a 2nd Lieutenant on 20 January 1915. He joined the Royal Field Artillery and served in France from 3 June 1915. He was wounded on 12 October 1916 and returned to England. He was first admitted to Queen Alexandra's Military Hospital, Millbank then transferred for convalescence to Lady Carnarvon’s Hospital for Officers at 48 Bryanston Square, London. On 12 September 1917, Charles died as a result of his wounds and was buried in Wareside (Holy Trinity) Churchyard in Hertfordshire. Charles is also named on the Wareside War Memorial.
Additional Information
Probate was granted to Geoffrey Lloyd Dixon, enameller (his brother) in London on 16 July 1921 with effects of £108 16s 9d, which was the pay owing.
