James Clements was born in Apr 1890 (baptised 1 Jun 1890) in Wheatley, Headington, Oxfordshire to Richard Clements, cattleman on farm, and Mary Ann Hayfield. His parents were married in 1888.
On the 1891 Census the family of parents, Henry Hayfield (born 1883), Kate Hayfield (born 1887) and James were living at Farm Close Lane, Wheatley.
On the 1901 Census the family of parents, James, Maud (born 1893), Bessie (born 1895), Annie (born 1898) and William (born 1901) were living at Ivy Hill Cottages, Holton, Oxon. James father died later in 1901.
On the 1911 James was living at High Street, Wheatley owning his own Threshing Machine.
James married Kate Lee in 19J5 in Tring. There would be two children : James William (born 29 Mar 1916) and Florence May (born 28 Mar 1917).
Wartime Service
No Service Record was found for James who served with 423 Battery, 264 Brigade Royal Field Artillery in Egypt and Palestine. By 1918 the Unit had been absorbed into the Yeomanry Mounted Division and was present at the Fall of Beirut in Oct 1918.
James fell ill and died in the Combined Hospital, Beirut on 23 Nov 1918.
Additional Information
War Gratuity of £13 and arrears of £9 7s 8d was paid to his widow Kate.
