Victor was born in London in 1887, the son of George and Susan Kibby. In 1909 he married Clementina Eliza Smith and in April 1909 their Son Reginald Harry was born. In 1911 he was a Private in the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards and living in Wellington Barracks, London.
Wartime Service
Victor arrived in France on 1st May 1915. The 1/Grenadiers were in the 3rd Brigade of the Guards Division.
On the 25th September 1916 the Guards Division, took part in The Battle of Morval, part of the Battle of The Somme. The attack began at 12.35pm, the 2/Scots Guards and the 4/Grenadiers took the 1st and 2nd objectives. Then at 2.35pm the 1/Grenadiers passed through them and took the 3rd objective they then linked up with the 1st Guards Brigade on their right. The 64th Brigade on their left was held up and this forced No.2 Company of the 1/Grenadiers and the 1/Welsh Guards to form a defensive flank. The rest of the 25th and 26th were spent consolidating the captured the positions and on the night of the 26th the 1/Grenadiers were relieved. It may have been during this attack that Victor was killed.
Additional Information
His Parents both died in Gilston. There seems to be some confusion in the spelling of his surname as it appears as both Kibby and Kibbey.
