Pre War

Walter Seaton was born in 1890 in Berkhamsted, Herts, the son of Walter and Maria Seaton, and one of two children. He had a sister named Emily.


On the 1891 Census the family were living at Highfield Road, Berkhamsted where his father was working as a bricklayer's labourer. They remained there in 1901 but had moved to 23 Cross Oak Road, Berkhamsted by 1911.


He married Margaret Stockley on 25 September 1912 at Great Berkhamsted and they had a son Edward Walter on 10 March 1915.


His widow later lived at 49 Oak Road, Berkhamsted.

Wartime Service

He served with the 24th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers.


Walter died on 23 January 1919 from 'a fever of uncertain origin whilst on active service' and is buried in Cologne Southern Cemetery.

Additional Information

His widow received a war gratuity of £16 and pay owing of £32 1s 10d. She also received a pension of £1 0s 5d a week for herself and her son.
