Pre War

Albert Dollimore was born in Berkhamsted, Herts in 1894, the son of Charles and Lucy Dollimore and one of three children,  with older sisters Winifred and Ada. 


On the 1901 Census the family were living at 6 Middle Road, Berkhamsted where his father was working as a timber hewer. They had moved to Chalgrave Villa, 24 Shrublands Avenue, Berkhamsted, by 1911 at which time 16 year old Albert was working as a houseboy. 

Wartime Service

He served with the Army Service Corps as a motor driver (motor engineer).


Albert died on 18 November 1918 at home in Berkhamsted from influenza and pneumonia and is buried in Rectory Lane Cemetery, Berkhamsted. 

Additional Information

His father received a war gratuity of £14 but there does not seem to have been any pay owing. 


A pension card exists in respect of his mother as dependant but no pension amount appears on the card.
