Pre War

Kenneth Robert was born in Radstock, Somerset in 1889 to Charles John Lewin, an elementary schoolteacher, and Sarah (nee Humphreys) also an elementary schoolteacher. Kenneth graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge completing in 1910.


He worked at Rothamsted Research Establishment.

Wartime Service

Kenneth was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant in Duke of Cornwall Light Infantry and went with 7th (Service) Battalion to France on 24 Jul 1915.


He was killed in action on 9 Mar 1916 near Ypres, Belgium.

Additional Information

His father, Mr C I Lewin of Casa, 10 Elmsleigh Road, Weston-super-Mare, ordered his headstone inscription: “UNTIL THE DAY DAWN”. Probate of £132 5s and arrears of £78 1s 1d. Brothers: Cecil H served as Captain in Somerset Light Infantry, awarded Military Cross, died 2 Nov 1918. Rex R served as Captain, Sussex Regiment died 25 Sep 1915, Claud J 2nd Lt Somerset Light Infantry, awarded Military Cross, wounded but survived, Wilfrid was a Cadet Royal Air Force. His headstone was ordered by Mr C I Lewin of Casa, 10 Elmsleigh Road, Weston-super-Mare and reads: "UNTIL THE DAY DAWN
