Geoffrey John Buddle was born in Writtle, Essex on 22 Nov 1893 the eldest son of Robert Hugh Montgomery Buddle Atkinson, a barrister, and Mabel (nee Draper).
In 1901 he was living with mother and younger brother Ronald at Hollins Hill House, The Riding, Hexham Northumberland.
He attended Harrow and was listed on the 1911 Census as a boarder. His father later lived at Mount Lodge, Townsend Road, Harpenden.
Wartime Service
In 1914 he gained a commission as 2nd Lieutenant in 5th Dragoon Guards but was placed on Special Reserve (infantry). Later he was transferred to 5th (Reserve) Batallion, Worcestershire Regiment. Geoffrey was attached to 4th Battalion, Worcesters on May 6th 1915.
The 4th had already landed at Cape Helles, Gallipoli on 25 Apr 1915 and already suffered heavy casualties. Geoffrey together with 12 other Officers and 159 Other Ranks arrived in the trenches on 27 May.
He was killed on 19 Jun 1915 while repulsing an attack by Turkish soldiers in part of the Battles of Krithia. He is buried in Twelve Tree Copse on the Gallipoli Peninsula.
