Lawrence Gray was born in Mildenhall Suffolk in 1881 to Lawrence Gray, cutler and Louisa (nee Whittaker).


On the 1891 Census the family of parents, Louise (born 1878), Lawrence, Constance (born 1882), William (born 1884), Walter (born 1887), Constance and Alice (born 1890) were living in Hockerill Street, Bishops Stortford.


His mother died in 1909.


On the 1911 Census his father Lawrence was living at 52 South Road, Bishops Stortford.

No Service Record was found.

Additional Information

His brother Leonard served with 2nd Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment and was killed in action on 27 Jun 1916.


*1 There are two L Grays associated with Bishop’s Stortford Lawrence and Leonard (poss Lenard). Lawrence is named on the Holy Trinity Church Memorial, however the Town memorial only lists L Gray, so it could be either. Given that Lawrence is named on one memorial, it seems more likely that he too is the man named on the Town memorial, but  we cannot be sure.
