Biography
George Wheeler was born on 5th December 1875 at Bushey Heath. He was one of seven children (four sons and three daughters) born to James and Emma Wheeler. At the time of the 1891 Census the family lived at Bushey Heath where James was employed as a Dairyman/Publican and Emma worked as a Publican’s Assistant
By the time of the 1901 Census George had moved away from the family home and lived at “Bucknalls” at Bricket Wood, where he was employed as a Groom. “Bucknalls” was owned by Frank and Marion Taylor, a Mining Engineer, and they employed about twenty servants.
George married Lily Jordan at Leavesden on 12th June 1906. He was recorded in the Abbots Langley Parish Magazine Roll of Honour for the first time in June 1917, serving with the Motor Transport section of the Army Service Corps (MTASC). He continued to serve with this unit throughout the remainder of the War.
George was listed in the Absent Voter Records for Abbots Langley for Autumn 1918 and Spring 1919, serving with the 373rd Company of the MTASC. He gave his address at Cecil Lodge Cottages, Abbots Langley, and had presumably moved to the village and was employed in service at Cecil Lodge.
George Wheeler survived the War.
