*1 In addition to the ‘A C’, ‘A G’ and ‘A W’ Smiths that appear on the Cheshunt Town Memorial there is another ‘A’ Smith listed (this man) who is yet to be identified. The St Mary’s Church (Cheshunt) also has an A Smith, this could also be this man, however it also lists his rank as Lance Corporal and his regiment as the Hertfordshire Regiment and this suggest it refers to 265218 Arthur William Smith, Hertfordshire Regiment.
