Pre War

William Henry Thomas BRADDING was born in Aldbury, Hertfordshire, on 22nd July 1922, son of William J. Bradding a Builders Labourer and Henrietta Bradding (nee Dumpleton), The eldest of their four children. His parent were married on 8th October 1921, in Tring, Herts.


1939 Register records William aged 17, working as a Under Gardener Boy, living with his parents, sisters Dorthey Jane (16), Gladys Alma (14) and brother Richard John (10), at 12 Troopers road, Aldbury, Herts. 

Wartime Service

William enlisted in the Royal Navy and issued with the service No. P/JX 314652, he served aboard HMS Sambre, he died on 2nd January 1943,  aged 20, his death was recorded as accidental drowning. He is buried in Kings Lynn Cemetery, Norfolk. Grave Ref: Section T. Grave 509.


William served as a D.E.M.S Gunner. (Defensive Equipped Merchant Ships).
