Pre War
Thomas George Claydon was born in Ellesborough, Bucks, to George Claydon, butcher, and Elizabeth (nee Goodchild).
On the 1901 Census the Family of parents, Eva Annie (born 1892), Beatrice M (born 1895), Thomas G, Florence Rose (born 1899), Ethel C (born 1901), Nellie Allen (Servant) were living at Terrick Nash lee, Ellesborough.
On the 1911 Census the family of parents, Eva A, Thomas G, Florence R, Ethel C, Sybil Helen (born1904) and Gwendoline Violet (born 1908) were living at Nash Lee, Ellesborough.
Wartime Service
Thomas enlisted as Private 1130 in the Buckinghamshire Yeomanry (Royal Bucks Hussars) in Aug 1914 in 1st/1st Battalion, part of 2nd South Midland Mounted Brigade in the Mounted Division. In Sep 1914 the Brigade transferred to 2nd Mounted Division and in Apr 1915 was moved to Egypt. In Aug 1915, as dismounted Infantry they were sent to Gallipoli (Suvla Bay). Following the evacuation they withdrew back to Egypt in Dec 1915. In Jan 1916 the Brigade became an independent command and was retitled as 6th Mounted Brigade. In Feb 1917 : Brigade transferred to Imperial Mounted Division and in Jun 1917 to the Yeomanry Mounted Division. In Apr 1918 the Bucks Yeomanry merged with the Berkshire Yeomanry to form C Bn, the Machine Gun Corps. In Jun 1918 left Egypt for France via Italy and were renumbered 101st Bn, Machine Gun Corps in Aug 1918 (Thomas renumbered as 165572) in 34 Division where they took part in the Battles of Tardenois (20-31 Jul), Soissonais & Ourcq (23 July – 2 Aug) as part of the Counter Attack in Champagne. Following on from these actions, Thomas was killed in action on 29 Aug 1918, His remains were not recovered and he is remembered on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Ypres.

War Gratuity of £19 and arrears of £10 9d 8d was paid to his father George.
