Pre War
Edward George was born in 1898 to George Pedder, a bricklayer’s labourer, and Mary (nee Randall).
On the 1901 Census the Family were living at Bennetts Cottages, Bells Hill, Barnet. Edward had an older brother Charles, born in 1897 and a sister, Ethel, born in 1900. On the 1911 the family were living at Albion Place, Bells Hill.
Wartime Service
Edward was deemed to have enlisted in March 1916 but only attested on 22 Jan 1917 at Watford and his occupation as gardener. He was given the service number 8195 and assigned to the Middlesex Regiment (Duke of Cambridge’s Own). Later Edward would be designated Private TF/ 203884.
Edward was sent to France on 8 May 1917. Landing in Boulogne, he was assigned to 8th Battalion Middlesex initially but transferred to 23rd Battalion (2nd Football) on 26 May 1917 and joined them in the field on 28 May 1917. As part of 41 Division the 23rd were to take part in the Battle of Messines & Jun – 14 Jun 1917. On 7 Jun 1917 Edward was reported Missing believed Killed in Action. His remains were not recovered and he is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres.
