David Parker was born in Tring on 8 Jan 1899 (baptised 10 Feb 1899 Tring) to Thomas Parker, game keeper, and Mary Anne (nee Haynes).


On the 1901 Census the family of parents, Martha (born 1890), Frank (born 1890), Richard (born 1891), Charlie (born 1893) and David were living at the Wood, Thorpe Road, Ixworth, Thingoe, Surrey.

Wartime Service

David was enlisted in the Royal Fusiliers as Private 75763 in the 7th (Extra Reserve) Battalion, some time in 1917. This Battalion had been in France since 27 Jul 1916 and Frank would have joined them in the field. As part of 190 Brigade 63rd (Royal Navy) Division, they took part in in the First Battles of the Somme 1918 at St Quentin (21-23 Mar), Bapaume (24-25 Mar) and Ancre (5 Apr) during the German Spring Offensive. David was reported killed in acton on 5 Apr 1918), his remains were not recovered and he is remembered on the Arras Memorial, France.

Additional Information

War Gratuity of £ 3 10s and arrears of £5 11s 5d was paid to his father Thomas.
