Arthur Reginald MOORCRAFT was born in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, on 22nd May 1921, son of Arthur Moorcraft a National Trust Labourer and Minnie Moorcraft (nee Coles). Believed to be their only child.


On the night of the 1921 Census, Arthur Jr. aged 1 month, and his mother Minnie are visiting Charles and Emily Lines and their family at 73 Lane Road, Luton, Beds. Believed to be Minnie's sister and brother in-law.


1939 Register records Arthur Jr. aged 18, working as a Farm Labourer, living with his parents, at 32 Trooper Road, Aldbury, Herts. It also records he was an Air Raid Precautions, Stretcher Bearer.

Wartime Service

Arthur Jr. enlisted in the Royal Artillery, issued with the service No. 1793617. He served with 355th Battery, 108th Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment. He died on 1st April 1944, aged 22, of wounds sustained in the UK.


He is buried in St. John the Baptist Churchyard, Aldbury, Herts. Grave Ref: West of Church Grave 32.


His Headstone inscription Reads, “LOVED AND REMEMBERED ALWAYS BY JANET, REGGIE, MUM AND DAD“ who requested it is not recorded.
