Pre War

We are currently unable to positively identity Private Albert Edwards Hays early life.


He was living in Broxbourne, Herts, when he travelled to Bedford to enlist, posted to the Middlesex Regiment (Duke of Cambridges Own), issued with the service number PW/5964. 

Wartime Service

He served on the Western Front and for a short time on the Italian Front. He served with the 1st Battalion, 18th Battalion and finally with 'C' Company, 23rd Battalion, at the time of his death.


He was Killed in Action on 19th July 1918, he has no known grave, he is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial in Belgium, to the missing. Panel 113 to 115.

Additional Information

His effects of £17-6-1, pay owing went to his brother Frederick, his war gratuity of £10, was unissued.
