Pre War
William James Jones was born on the 27th December 1873 in at Sevenoaks in Kent in 1873 or 1874 in Sevenoaks, Kent. In 1881 he is living with parents John and Jane in Sevenoaks with his father described as a Ground Labourer. In 1891 they were still living in Sevenoaks, with William James described as a general labourer. In 1899 he married Ezit Knight in the Sevenoaks registration district and by 1901 they were living in Norton (near Baldock); he was described as a blacksmith, with one son. By 1911 they had five children and were living in Colliers End, Ware, Herts. with his wife Eztia and five children. William James was a blacksmith on his own account. Enlisted in Peterborough.
Wartime Service
He appears to have joined up in the Army Service Corps SE/5633, but transferred to the Army Veterinary Corps probably because of his experience as a Blacksmith/Farrier. It is possible he died of disease in Egypt rather than was killed in action.
Additional Information
He was Sevenoaks, Kent. The first son to John Roach Jones and Jane Jones (Wicks).
