Pre War

Thomas Prior was born in 1876 at Boxworth in Cambridgeshire to Thomas and Emily Prior. His father was an agricultural labourer.

In 1891 Thomas was still at home living with his parents, and is described as an agricultural labourer also. By 1901 he was living with Charles and Emily Wrangles at 42 High Cross as a boarder, under the name of Thomas Smith, a single man, and is described as a Bricklayer. So between 1891 and 1901 he left Box-worth for whatever reason, and started up a new life in High Cross as Thomas Smith. He was still living with the Wrangles in 1911. This information is confirmed by consulting Roll of Honour Cambridgeshire and then Boxworth, and also through military records. He enlisted at Hertford

Wartime Service

It seems that for reasons unknown, Thomas was known by a different name in Thundridge and High Cross.
