Born on 3 Feb 1867 in 5 Saville Place, Clifton, Bristol, Gloucestershire and baptised on 6 Mar 1867 son of Nathaniel and Frances Louisa (Page) Gore. Educated at Haileybury College 1880-83 and the Royal Military College, Woolwich 1885-86. He married Rachel Cecelia Sanderson in 1899 in Dublin and had one son. Gazetted Lieutenant on 29 Jan 1886 1st Bn. Argyle and Sutherland Highlanders, he served in Ceylon 1886-88 and Hong Kong 1888-92. Promoted to Captain on 9 Dec 1896, Adjutant on 21 Apr 1897 and Major on 12 Dec 1907.

Wartime Service

He took command of the battalion as Lieutenant Colonel on 3 Nov 1914 and entered France on 29 Dec 1914. He was made Brigadier General i.c. 101st Brigade on 27 Jan 1916. The headquarters of both 101st and 74th Brigades were in the cellar of a farm at Mont de Lille in Belgium when it was destroyed by an explosion. General Gore and his signalling Officer were killed and there were several other casualties.
