Born on 22 May 1884 and baptised on 8 Jul 1884 in Dalhousie, Bengal, India son of Lt. Col. James Philip Sparling (Indian Army) and Lucy Mary (Ryan) Sparling. Educated at the United Services College 1892-95 and Fettes College. Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant on 18 Jan 1905 and promoted Lieutenant on 18 Apr 1907. Served on the North-West Frontier 1908.
Wartime Service
Mentioned in despatches (London Gazette 1 Jan 1916).
Killed in action at Neuve Chapelle.
