John was the son of the Rev. John Gordon Addenbrooke and Ethel Addenbrooke, of The Warren, Knebworth, Hertfordshire
Wartime Service
He arrived in France on the 14th November 1915 as a Private serving with the Royal Fusiliers. He was Commissioned on the 4th September 1916 and was transferred to the North Staffordshire Regiment. John was then attached to the 11th Manchester Regiment, serving with them until his death. On the 23rd November 1916 the Battalion were taking over Trenches in an area between St. Pierre Divion and Grandcourt and during this operation John Addenbrooke was killed.
