Born in 1889 in Hertford and christened on 5 Jun 1889 in Hertford son of John Marshall and Mary Aylett of 36 Raynham Street, Hertford. He was a leather dresser.
Wartime Service
Enlisted 2640 Private Hertfordshire Regiment on 2 Sep 1914 at Hertford. Entered France on 5 Nov 1914 but returned to England on 3 Jan 1915 because of loose cartilage in the right knee and served at home thereafter. Posted to Suffolk Regiment 14th Bn. on 11 Apr 1917. He was discharged on 9 Apr 1918 as no longer physically fit for War service due to neurasthenia. He died in Hertford.
