Born on 31 Oct 1891 in Thayetmyo, Burma son of Mackay John Scobie (Indian P.W.D., retired) and Louisa (Scott) Scobie of "Woodlands" 11 Stourwood Avenue, Bournemouth. Educated at Haileybury College 1906-09 and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. Gazetted 2nd Lieutenant to the unattached list on 18 Jan 1911 and attached to the 59th Scinde Rifles on 25 Mar 1912. He was unmarried.

Wartime Service

On the outbreak of the war, he entered France with the Indian Expeditionary Force in Sep 1914. He was present at the actions in Givenchy in Dec 1914 and in Neuve-Chapelle in Mar 1915. He was severely wounded at Ypres in Apr 1915 and was mentioned in dispatches and awarded the MC. After recovering he left France for Mesopotamia in Dec 1915 and was killed while leading his men in action at the Dujailah Redoubt at Es Sinn during the attempted relief of Kut.
