Pre War

Born on 20 November 1873 in High Street, Wormley, Herts., son of Thomas and Mary Ann Parmenter (nee Penney). Baptised on 25 December 1873 in Wormley. Later moving to Friern Barnet.

In 1891 he is listed on the Census as being a soldier at the Cavalry and Artillery Barracks in Colchester. He married Kate Hadley on 27 Nov 1898 in Wandsworth and they lived in 61 Fairfield Street, Wandsworth, London and had three children.

On the 1911 Census he was living with his wife and three children, Agnes, Elsie and Harold, at 61 Fairfield Street, Wandsworth, London and working for Watneys Distillery as a Smith & Farrier. He re-enlisted in London.

Wartime Service

Enlisted at London and in 1911 he was already in the Cavalry Barracks in Colchester.
