The birth of an Elizabeth J Dalton (with mother’s surname Gifford) is recorded (Q2 1918) in the Watford registration district and may also be a daughter of Sarah and Francis.

Harry enlisted in Watford as Private 134299 in the Royal Garrison Artillery before later transferring as Private G/52035 to the Queen's (Royal West Surrey Regiment), serving in the 10th Battalion. He served on the Western Front and was killed in action on 18 August 1917, aged 21.

The pension record shows his mother, Sarah Dalton, as the dependant living at 26, Glencoe Road and gives a pension award of 9/6 per week with effect from 02/04/18. Her name is later crossed through and replaced with Francis James from 24/02/32.

He is remembered with honour at Bertenacre Military Cemetery, Fletre in France. He is also commemorated on the Bushey Memorial and at St James’ Parish Church in Bushey.
