Harold Peart was born in Southwark, Surrey in early 1889, the son of Isaac William and Annie Lydia Peart. His mother died later the same year and on the 1901 Census 12 year old Harold was living with his brother Issac at 64 High Street, Islington, London and his brother was working as a Dairyman. His widowed father was then living with Harold's grandmother at Tewin Bury (Farm), Nr Welwyn, Herts and working with his brother Robert (Harold's uncle) on the farm.
He emigrated on 18 September 1914 to Wellington, New Zealand on the 'Ionic' and gave his occupation as Butcher.
On enlistment Harold's last UK address was given as 7 Park Street, Southwark, London and his residence as Otahuhu, Auckland. His next of kin was his brother Isaac Thomas Peart of 7 Park Street, Southwark, London SE.
Wartime Service
Harold enlisted with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force and left from Wellington, New Zealand on 26 April 1917 on HMNZT 82 Pakeha en route to Plymouth, England.
He died of wounds on 31 August 1918, aged 28 and is buried at Bagneux British Cemetery, Gezaincourt.
