George was born on the 27th April 1898, the son of George & Mary Cannon of The Smithy, Bennington, Stevenage, Hertfordshire. He followed in the footsteps of both his father and elder brother, James, and became a Blacksmith.
Wartime Service
He attested for service in the Army in March 1916 but was not mobilised until December 1916. George did not get the opportunity to serve overseas as he died in the Duston War Hospital War Hospital, Northampton, as a result of Tuberculosis. His parents were with him at the time of his death. He is buried in St. Peter’s Churchyard, Benington.
Additional Information
His younger brother, Thomas, served on the Western Front with the Queens Regiment.
