Pre War

Born in 1889 in Ware, Hertfordshire son of Charles William and Martha Halfhide. He was a malster’s labourer and lived in High Oak Road, Ware in 1891 and in 10 North Road, Hoddesdon in 1901 and 1911.


He married Blanche E Thurgill in 1913 in Ware and she lived at 10 Hertingfordbury Road, Hertford.

Wartime Service

Enlisted in Jan 1917 formerly Norfolk Regiment. While he was attending to a wounded comrade he suffered a penetrating wound to the chest on 24 Aug 1918 and was evacuated to a casualty clearing station (Forces War Record).


He was repatriated to a London Hospital and finally to Hertford County Hospital on 23 May 1919 where he stayed until he died.
