Born on 6 Jan 1878 in Guildford, Surrey son of Surg. Maj. Thomas and Violet Sophia (Lockhart) Maxwell. Educated at the United Services College 1891-93 and Cheltenham College. Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant Indian Army on 20 Jan 1900 and made Captain on 24 Jan 1909. He married Christian Leckie Orr Ewing on 12 Jul 1905 in Guildford.

Wartime Service

Killed in action on the Somme.

Additional Information

Brother of Brigadier General Francis Aylmer Maxwell VC, CSI, DSO who was killed in action on 21 Sep 1917 at Ypres and is also commemorated on this memorial. United Services College, Westward Ho, Devon amalgamated with Imperial Service College in Windsor in 1912 and then moved to Haileybury College, Hertford Heath in 1942.
