Born on 25 Jan 1894 in Burton-on-Trent only son of Herbert Arthur and Gertrude Couchman of Shobnall Grange, Burton-on-Trent. Educated at Haileybury College 1908-12.

Wartime Service

Enlisted AB Z/881, Royal Naval Division, Hawke Bn. on 17 Nov 1914. Served at Gallipoli from Apr 1915. Invalided to UK with gastritis on 25 Nov 1915. Obtained a commission in North Staffs. on 24 Oct 1916 and was killed in action on the Somme.
