Born in 1895 in Whitechapel, London son of Arwid Lionel Beale and Eliza Collins and living in Whitechapel in 1901, and later of 33, Norwich Rd., Walsoken, Wisbech, Cambs. Educated at Seaford College, Sussex. Lived in Hoe Lane, Ware when he enlisted.

Karl is buried in Great Amwell (St. John the Baptist) Churchyard and his headstone bears a commemoration to Arwid, which reads:

ALSO OF ARWID COLLINS
KILLED IN ACTION AT THE DARANELLES
AUGUST 24TH 1915 AGED 19
"GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS"
