Pre War

Born in 1892 lived with parents Walter and Susan plus 3 brothers and 2 sisters at 82 Chapel Lane, Stanstead Abbotts, by 1911 was living at Homewood, Lincoln Road, Sidcup. Kent.

Wartime Service

Joined the Hertfordshire Regiment in 1915 as Private 4902 but was transferred to Bedfordshire Regt, No 266168 and went to France in July that year.


The regiment was involved in Somme campaign at Battle of Ancre and Ancre Heights. Battalion moved to Ypres salient in November 1916. On 31st July 1917 battalion attacked German positions at Langemarck part of the battle for Pilckem Ridge, but were caught in heavy machine gun and artillery fire when they reached German wire. 464 casualties from 6oo, Albert being one of them.
