Pre War

Born on 26 Feb 1868 in Tellicherry, India son of John Child Hannyngton I.C.S., and Laura Elizabeth (Onslow) Hannyngton. Educated at the United Services College 1881-84. Gazetted 2nd Lieutenant the Worcestershire Regiment on 8 Jun 1889 and Lieutenant 2 Mar 1891. He was transferred to the Indian Army on 23 Mar 1892 and promoted Captain on 8 Jun 1900 He married Mary Lewis on 12 Nov 1907 in London and had one daughter.

Wartime Service

Promoted to Lieutenant Colonel on 8 Jun 1915. He served in East Africa and in Uganda, where he was wounded, 1895-98. He fought on the Western Front 1914-15 and was ordered to East Africa where he commanded a Brigade and then a Division. He died of pneumonia en route back to India. United Services College, Westward Ho, Devon amalgamated with Imperial Service College in Windsor in 1912 and then moved to Haileybury College, Hertford Heath in 1942.
