Son of Walter and Jane (nee BELSHER) CRAWFORD of Toronto.
His parents married 1890 in the Watford district. Walter died 15 February 1929 in York County, Ontario, aged 65, and was buried 18 February in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Toronto.
Frederick was born 31 March 1895 in Watford, and attended first Callow Land Infants’ School, Watford; then Alexandra School, Watford, from 21 October 1901 to 26 March 1909.
On the 1901 Census, aged 6 he lived in Watford, with his parents and four siblings. On the 1911 Census, an apprentice carpenter aged 16, he still lived in Watford, with his parents and seven siblings.
Wartime Service
He attested 16 April 1915 in Hamilton into the Canadian Over-Seas Expeditionary Force: a carpenter aged 20, unmarried, 5’6″ tall, C of E, already serving in the 36th Peel Regiment Militia; his mother of Toronto, Ontario, was his next-of-kin.
He was killed in action in the vicinity of Courcelette; the body was not recovered for burial.
