Pre War

Born on 23rd April 1882 in Hambledon, Surrey, one of nine children, to parents Herbert and Martha. By 1891 had moved to Brading in Hampshire and 10 years later were in Oakwood Hill, Surrey. From 1897 until 1899 attended Mill Hill school in Burton Bank House. By 1902 he was working as a dairy farmer, within a few years he had emigrated to Canada where he became an estate agent, possibly with his brother Charles who had already arrived in Canada.

Wartime Service

Joined Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force on December 14th 1914, with his brother Cecil. Posted to B Company, 32nd Infantry Battalion. Sailed to England in February 1915. Arrived in France in May 1915. Promoted to Corporal. Killed in attack on village of Festubert, part of the Artois offensive, made to assist French attacks.

The Spicer brothers are also commemorated on a headstone in Hoddesdon Cemetery, currently we do not have a transcription of the words.
