Wartime Service

No Service record was found for Herbert, He likely was enlisted in 1915 as Private 24522, 4th (Queens Own) Hussars and was posted to 10th Reserve Regiment of Cavalry, stationed at the Curragh, Ireland.

This Reserve Regiment trained men for a number of Regiments mainly Hussars. The Easter Rising took place in 1916 (24 – 29 Apr) in Ireland and it is highly likely that being stationed at the Curragh Herbert would a member of the forces sent to Dublin to disperse the rising.

Herbert was reported killed in action on 24 Apr 1916. His remains were interred in Grangegorman Military Cemetery, Dublin. He was ineligible for Service Medals as he served in the UK.
