Gordon Harold Cooper was born in Little Heath in 1896 to Henry Cooper, a blacksmith, and Ellen Jane (nee Robinson.


On the 1901 Census his parents, Edwin H (born 1892) and Gordon were living at New Road, Sunninghill.


On the 1911 Census Gordon was Ironmonger’s shop boy and living with his parents at Carisbrooke Road, Sunninghill, Berks. 

Wartime Service

Gordon attested on 5 Jul 1915 for the Kings Royal Rifle Corps as rifleman R/14404 at Southampton and posted to 5th (Reserve) Battalion on 6 Aug 1915 for his initial training.


He embarked for France on 14 Feb 1916 and was posted to 9th (Service) Battalion on 16 Feb 1916. He joined this Battalion in the field on 4 Mar 1916. Gordon was reported killed in action on 25 Mar 1916. His remains were not recovered and he is remembered on the Arras Memorial.

Additional Information

War Gratuity of £3 and arrears of £3 18s 0d was paid too his father.
