Born on 29 Dec 1894 in Kidmore End, Oxfordshire son of Rev. John Ernest and Eliza Margaret (Melville) Smith-Masters of Camer, Meopham, Kent. Educated at Haileybury College 1909-13 and Keble College, Oxford.

Wartime Service

Gazetted 2nd Lieutenant on 21 Aug 1914 from the Oxford University O.T.C. He embarked with his battalion on 30 Jul 1915. He was shot at night by a sniper.

Additional Information

His brother Captain Bruce Swinton Smith-Masters MC was also killed in action on 1 Jul 1916.
