Son of the late William and Harriet (nee COX) COOK.
His parents married 1867 at St Nicholas’, Brighton, Sussex. Harriet died 1901 aged 61; William died 1907 aged 60; both in the Brighton district.
Walter was born 1877 in Hove, Sussex, and baptised 8 April 1877 in Brighton. He resided in Watford.
On the 1881 Census, a scholar aged 4 he lived in Hove, with his mother and four siblings. On the 1891 Census, a grocer’s errand boy aged 14, he lived in Lindfield, Sussex, with his parents and no siblings. On the 1901 Census, a bus conductor aged 24, he lived in Watford, in the household of his brother-in-law George KNIGHT. On the 1911 Census, a cab proprietor aged 34, he was a visitor in Watford.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in Bedford; was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and died of wounds received in action.

There is a brief article about and a Death announcement for Walter in the West Herts and Watford Observer dated 28 October 1916.
Unfortunately, Walter’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
