Born on 15 Aug 1885 in Somersham, Cambridgeshire son of the Rev. Arnold Kirke and Emma Frances (Lindsell) Smith of Boxworth Rectory, Cambridge. Educated at Haileybury College 1899-1903 and King’s College, London. Was in the Argentine when war broke out. Immediately returned and volunteered. He was unmarried.

Wartime Service

Gazetted 2nd Lieutenant to the R.F.A. on 9 Nov 1914 and entered France in Dec 1914. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 1915 and killed in action at Fricourt on the Somme.
