Son of Joseph and Ann (nee BATES) SMITH of Watford.
His parents married 22 December 1878 at St James’, Bushey, Herts. Joseph died 26 June 1920 in Watford aged 64, and was buried 30 June in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford.
Joseph was born 1881 in Watford, and baptised 24 June 1991 at St Mary’s, Watford. He resided in Watford.
He has an entry in the National Probate Calendar.
On the 1891 Census, aged 9 he lived in Watford, with his parents and three siblings. On the 1901 Census, a cycle maker and repairer aged 19, he still lived in Watford, with his parents and four siblings. On the 1911 Census, a carpenter aged 29, he still lived in Watford, with his parents and two siblings.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in Bedford, and was formerly Private 23760 Bedfordshire Regiment.
He was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and was killed in action.
