Born on 26 Jul 1889 in Athlone, Ireland son of William Robert and Maud (Lushington) Colomb of Rossleigh, Greystones, Co. Wicklow.


Educated at Haileybury College 1903-06.

Wartime Service

Initially enlisted as Private (later L/Cpl) 2170 4th London Regiment*1. Entered France on 6 Jan 1915. Was awarded DCM for conspicuous gallantry on 27 Apr 1915 near Ypres. “He rescued under a very heavy rifle and shell fire a wounded man who was lying 50 yards away, rendered first aid and carried him back to cover. In doing this he was himself wounded.” He later obtained a commission in the 4th London Regiment and was attached to the Royal Flying Corps.


He was killed while flying in action.

Additional Information

Brother of 2nd Lieutenant Mervyn William Colomb who died of wounds on 11 May 1915 and is also commemorated on these memorials.
