Son of Mary Ann Hawkins (nee RICE) SMITH of Staveley, Chesterfield and the late Edwin SMITH; husband of Ethel Fanny (nee HEATH) SMITH of Watford

His parents married 22 June 1874 at St John the Baptist, Staveley.  Edwin died 1913 in the Chesterfield district aged 58, and was buried at Eckington, Derbys.

Edwin was born 1892 in Staveley, and baptised 24 February 1892 at St John’s, Staveley.  He married 8 January 1916 at the Congregational Church, Watford, and resided in Watford.

On the 1901 Census, aged 9 he lived in Staveley, with his parents and three siblings.  On the 1911 Census, a coal miner aged 19, he still lived in Staveley, with his parents and one sibling.

Wartime Service

He enlisted in Chesterfield, Derbys; was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and died at 55 Casualty Clearing Station of wounds received in action.

Unfortunately, Edwin’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
