Additional Information

*1 The St Albans Cathedral Diocese records record an Alfred Smith with a connection to Chorleywood who was a Sergeant in the Royal Engineers and his wife’s address was recorded as Chorleywood, however we have not been able to identify this man. We have identified an ‘Albert John Smith’ was a Sergeant in the Royal Engineers and his wife’s address was recorded as Chorleywood. So, while we are not certain, we think that the reference to Alfred Smith may be incorrect and we have assumed this to be the man intended to be commemorated in the Diocese records.
