Pre War

Francis John Mclardie Chubb was born in Kensington, London in 1893, the son Edward and Eliza Chubb and one of four children. 


On the 1901 Census the family were living at 8 Thurley Road, Norwood, Lambeth, Surrey where his father was working as a solicitor. By the time of the 1911 Census Francis was a student at St Andrew's College, Bradfield, Reading and later attended King's College, Cambridge. 


Wartime Service

Francis enlisted at the outbreak of war and served as 2nd Lieutenant with the Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, leaving England for the Front on 27 January 1915. 


He was killed in action at Ypres on 18 April 1915. He has no known grave and his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.

Additional Information

His mother received pay owing of £49 17s 0d. 

His father Edward Geoffrey Chubb served as Captain with The Queen's (Royal West Surrey Regiment), was killed in action on 12 July 1915 and is buried in Tancrez Farm Cemetery, Belgium.
