Son of William and Mary Smith, of St. Albans; husband of Annie Smith, of 4, Croft Rd., Ware.
Wartime Service
Served with 3rd/1st Battalion, Hertfordshire Regiment. Died at Welwyn of Heart Failure. No overseas service in the Great War. Previously served in the Royal Marines. Buried with his son, J/18802, Able Seaman Percy Edwin Smith, H.M.S. Renown who died 24 January 1919 from the effects of Meningitis.

*1 There appear to be two Albert Edward Smiths with an association with Ware it is not yet clear which one is the soldier commemorated on the memorials 36456 or 3596. However, currently this man's association appears to be through his parents address, given after he died and his burial location, so it more likely to be 36456 and not this man.
