Reginald was born in Finsbury on 12 Oct 1892 to Thomas Cochrane, an accountant, and Katherine (nee Barr).


On the 1901 Census the family were living at 79 Digby Road, Stoke Newington. Reginald had 2 sisters and an elder brother. Reginald (as a 2nd Lt RFA) married Ruby Maria Theresa Turner on 23 Sep 1916 in Wendover, Bucks.

Wartime Service

Reginald enlisted in Royal Field Artillery. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant on 7 Aug 1915 and assigned to ‘B’ Battery 282 Brigade RFA. CCLXXXII (282) Brigade RFA.  This was formed as a Territorial Force Unit and was headquartered in Finsbury, London. 


As part of 56 Division Artillery, 282 Brigade were to take part in the Battle of Langemarck  (An Action of 3rd Ypres or Passchendaele) on 16 – 17 Aug 1917. During this battle Reginald was killed (possibly the result of German counter battery fire). He was Mentioned in Despatches (Date not found)

Additional Information

His widow, Mrs. R Stagg (formerly Cochrane), of East Cott, Bedmond, King's Langley, ordered his headstone inscription: "Pea ce". War Gratuity of £6 10s and arrears of £126 3s 0d paid to his widow. His widow is recorded as living at East Cote, Bedmond at one time. Brother Douglas Thomas also served in RFA as a Captain.
