Born on 10 Jan 1893 in Tudhoe, Durham son of the Rev. S. McKinnon Thompson, Vicar of Northallerton and Edith Rose (Prest) Thompson. Educated at Haileybury College 1907-10 and Durham University (Civil Engineering). He was unmarried.
Wartime Service
Gazetted 2nd Lieutenant Special Reserve of Officers on 18 Apr 1914 and promoted Lieutenant on 12 Aug 1915. Entered France on 29 Sep 1914 attached to the Northumberland Fusiliers. Acted as Assistant Town Major at Bailleul, 1915-16. He was recalled to his Regiment on 15 Mar 1916 and was killed in action at the Battle of St Eloi by a shell while he was in the second German trench. He was buried on the battlefield, but his body was not recovered.
