Born in 1886. Husband of Elizabeth Clarke, later of 33b Oaker's Buildings, St. Andrew's St., Hertford. They had three sons, J H Clarke (b22/2/1911), Jack (b30/10/1915) and James (b3/6/1916)


Enlisted at Hertford, originally as Private 5146 with a home address of Colemans Yard, Hertford with his service recorded as starting 7th June 1915.

Wartime Service

He was renumbered to 266705 he went overseas on the 13th March 1916.


Posts as missing after the terrible losses of the Hertfordshire Re3gimentn on the 31st of July 1917 at St Julien and then recorded as killed in action on that date and his body was never found..
